$5.2M Donation from Pedal the Cause to Accelerate Cancer Research

November 21, 2024

Pedal the Cause announced the results of their 2024 fundraising campaign to a packed house at 4 Hands Brewing Co. at the District on November 19th at their 15 Year Impact Bash. A record-breaking $5,204,913 was donated to Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital to fund critical adult and pediatric cancer research. The donation represents the largest in the organization’s 15-year history, despite thunderstorms dampening this year’s event in September.

To date, the Pedal the Cause community has donated $51,016,352, creating real, tangible impact in the fight against cancer. This transformational investment seeds promising research ideas and speeds innovation, bringing groundbreaking treatments from concept to lab to patient at an unprecedented speed.

“The Pedal community should be immensely proud of this record-breaking donation,” said David Drier, executive director of Pedal the Cause. “Our 15th year had it challenges, but in the end, we have proven we are so much more than a cycling event. Together, we are a dynamic community mobilized for change and united in our commitment to cure cancers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s $5.2 million donation a reality.”

During the Impact Bash, Pedal the Cause presented their annual Bill and Amy Koman Founders Award to the investigators, scientists and employees at Siteman Cancer Center. Timothy J. Eberlein, M.D., director of Siteman, accepted the award on behalf of the institution.

“The impact that Pedal the Cause has had in a very short period of time is really unique,” Eberlein said. “Without this incredible partnership of Pedal participants, we would not be able to lead the country in groundbreaking discoveries resulting in advanced treatments for our patients — and more hope!”

For every $1 that Pedal the Cause invests in cancer research, Siteman investigators unlock an average of $13 in additional external funding. This means that their $51 million investment has unleashed over half a billion dollars in total funding, multiplying the impact of their community’s generosity and propelling us even closer to their ultimate goal: a world without cancer.
