Local Support Creating Global Impact

September 30, 2025

In just 15 years, Pedal the Cause has donated more than $51 million to innovative cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. That support has propelled breakthroughs that are transforming cancer care here in St. Louis and around the world.

Personalized Vaccines
Pedal funding has fueled advances in personalized vaccines for aggressive cancers like glioblastoma and melanoma. In one breast cancer trial, 16 of 18 patients with triple-negative breast cancer were cancer-free three years later—a game-changing result now driving larger global studies.

New Hope for Kids
Because of you, Siteman became the first center in the nation to offer a groundbreaking Natural Killer (NK) cell therapy for children with leukemia who had run out of options. Today, many of those children are alive and thriving, and this therapy is now shaping pediatric leukemia treatment worldwide.

CAR-T Therapy
Early Pedal-supported research helped advance CAR-T therapy, a breakthrough in which a patient’s own immune cells are reprogrammed to fight cancer. In early trials, 16 of 20 patients with advanced blood cancers saw their cancer vanish. That research helped lead to FDA approval, making CAR-T a standard of care for some patients worldwide.

Cancer Goggles
Pedal also funded the early development of “cancer goggles,” an imaging technology that allows surgeons to see tumors in real time during surgery. What began as an experiment in St. Louis is now improving surgical outcomes globally and is on the path toward wider FDA clearance.

Reducing Cancer Disparities
Your support also helped launch a first-of-its-kind program to address cancer disparities, expanding access to advanced therapies for underserved patients. This program is now being replicated by other National Cancer Institute centers, influencing national policy and saving lives far beyond our community.

The Ripple Effect
From vaccines and cell therapies to imaging innovations and equity programs, the ripple effect of Pedal is being felt across continents. What started here in St. Louis is saving lives around the world.

Every bike, every mile, every dollar, every story matters. Together, we are making cancer more treatable, more survivable, and in some cases, curable. And with each year, your determination fuels even more hope for the future. Thank you, Pedal Family!
