Pedal the Cause is proud to announce that its ongoing support helped contribute to $2.44 million in new cancer research grants awarded through the Siteman Investment Program at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. The funding will accelerate critical research across multiple cancer types and includes support for a range of innovative projects, including 13 new research awards and multiple clinical trials. These grants, made possible through collaborative philanthropic efforts of Pedal the Cause and several other sources, will fuel cutting-edge scientific exploration into tumor biology, novel therapies, early detection strategies and more.
This portfolio of funded projects spans transformative laboratory research, translational team science, and innovative clinical trials. Among the studies receiving support are:
- Clinical trials investigating advanced pancreatic cancer therapies, new approaches for myeloid malignancies, strategies to reduce treatment toxicity in HPV-related cancers, and novel therapies for Kaposi sarcoma.
- Translational team science programs focused on enhancing anti-tumor immune responses and developing next-generation immunotherapies.
- Pre-R01 and discovery research projects exploring targeted radiotherapies, diet-related enhancements to radiation treatment, bacterial immunomodulation for glioblastoma, interventions to increase lung cancer screening in underserved areas, and molecular profiling to inform precision therapies.
“The tens of millions of dollars raised by Pedal the Cause since 2010 have launched multiple new approaches that have reduced the burden of cancer on our patients,” said Timothy J. Eberlein, M.D., Director of Siteman Cancer Center. “Together, this partnership — Pedal and Siteman — is making cancer a chronic, treatable disease.”
In 2025, Pedal the Cause contributed more than $5.2 million to support cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, advancing breakthroughs that improve lives and speed new treatments from concept to reality.
Pedal the Cause is one of the top ten most impactful cause-related cycling events in North America having donated more than $56 million since 2010 to seed, accelerate and lead innovative cancer research. All — 100% — of participant-raised funds directly support cancer research that would otherwise go unfunded. Over the years, Pedal the Cause has supported 267 cancer research projects — 210 adult and 57 pediatric initiatives.
Looking ahead, Pedal the Cause, presented by Edward Jones, returns for its seventeenth year of impact with a weekend of biking and community events on September 19 & 20, 2026 at the Family Arena in St. Charles. Registration opens April 1, 2026 for riders of all levels, spinners, virtual fundraisers, kids and volunteers who share a passion for creating a world without cancer.
