Pedal the Cause is proud to announce the funding of eight new cancer research projects and one new clinical trial at Siteman Cancer Center. The projects and trials will benefit from nearly $1.89 million in new grants awarded through the Siteman Investment Program. Research focused on innovative therapies for lymphoma and leukemia as well as improving outcomes for brain tumors in children are included in these projects. The clinical trial will test a novel immunotherapy treatment for metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer.
In 2024, Pedal the Cause donated $5,204,913 to Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital to advance new ideas in prevention and treatment, improve outcomes for those stricken by the disease and speed new and effective treatments to market.
“The generosity of Pedal the Cause, including donors, sponsors, riders, volunteers and others, is an investment in science, health, our community and ourselves,” said Timothy J. Eberlein, M.D., director of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. “The tens of millions of dollars raised since 2010 have launched multiple new approaches that have reduced the burden of cancer on our patients. Together, this relationship – Pedal and Siteman – is making cancer a chronic disease. We could not do this alone.”
Pedal the Cause is one of the top ten largest cause-related cycling events in the country, having donated over $51 million since 2010 to seed, speed and lead new ideas in cancer research. All – 100 percent – of participant-raised funds support innovative cancer research here in St. Louis and is research that would otherwise go unfunded. To date, Pedal the Cause has funded 238 cancer research projects – 186 adult and 52 pediatric.
This year, Pedal the Cause, presented by Edward Jones, returns for its sixteenth year of impact with an exciting lineup of cycling and community events. On September 20 and 21, thousands will gather at the Family Arena for a celebratory weekend of pedaling, community, festivities and family fun.
Registration opens on March 3rd for bike riders of all levels, spinners, virtual fundraisers, kids and volunteers with a passion to create a world without cancer. Learn more at pedalthecause.org.
