Second-highest annual donation since 2010 boosts 13-year total above $40 million
Pedal the Cause is thrilled to announce the results of 2022 fundraising with a total donation of $4,543,878 to Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The announcement was made Wednesday, November 16 at Pedal the Cause’s Check Presentation Celebration sponsored by Armanino at Urban Chestnut Grove Brewery and Bierhall.
The donation is the second-highest in the organization’s 13-year history, 100 percent of which will support innovative cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Since 2010, Pedal the Cause has supported 194 unique research projects and raised and donated a total of $40,807,523. Donated funds will be granted to the most promising research projects as determined by each institution.
“The support from donors, sponsors, riders and volunteers in the Pedal the Cause community has created phenomenal momentum and progress in cancer research and treatment,” said Timothy J. Eberlein, M.D., director of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
“These investments provide hope and enhance care for tens of thousands of patients treated at Siteman Cancer Center every year.”
Pedal the Cause funds early-stage research ideas using the venture capital model. On average, research projects supported by Pedal the Cause go on to receive $7 in federal funding for every $1 initially invested. Supported projects have impacted a variety of cancer types, improved treatments and led to multiple clinical trials at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
“Each year we see the tremendous returns on our community’s investment in Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital,” said David Drier, Executive Director of Pedal the Cause. “These world-class institutions are integral to a thriving cancer research ecosystem, and generating the progress needed to make a world without cancer a reality.”
More than 3,000 participants of all ages joined Pedal the Cause in 2022, cycling, spinning, volunteering or through at-home virtual activities. Participants and teams raised funds from March through October. The generous support of sponsors, led by Edward Jones, ensures that 100 percent of donations made to Pedal the Cause directly fund cancer research.
